When I started working with her, I was already a fairly experienced ultra athlete, having completed many long distance biking events such as Race Across AMerica (RAAM), Paris-Brest-Paris, Furnace Creek 508 and many other races on a tandem with my husband. I had injured myself in a 100 mile run and I wanted help to recover after surgery (the insurance only covered a few PT sessions). I was refered to Julia. I did not think I had a lot to learn about training for running and biking races (at the time, I was just thinking about recovering). How wrong I was! After 10 years, I am still learning from Julia.
She has a unique ability to target my work-outs perfectly, to make them interesting, challenging, and still fun after all this time. She is very flexible, extremely inspirational, and tough in a positive and helpful way. She is able to vary my work-outs so that they are always helpful to me, and never feel stale. In short, she is absolutely the best!
Julia helped me to lose 25 lbs and to prepare me for my first ever triathlon. As an extreme athlete herself, she knows a lot about how to improve one's fitness. The web-based interaction we used worked perfectly for my busy schedule. I had for a long time wanted to complete an Olympic triathlon. I took up Julia's challenge of doing the Santa Cruz Triathlon this September. Within a span of seven weeks, after a particularly exhaustive trip out of the country, I have gone from 185 to 170 lbs and considerably improved my fitness. I was amazed at how my previous diet and the change in diet, tailored by Julia, could have such a huge impact without feeling hungry. Julia also created a training plan for improving my running. Along the way, Julia has given me many improvement tips that would've taken me long to acquire.
Julia has tailored my plan and worked around my busy work schedule, and has made herself available at odd times. It has been great to work with Julia.
- SteveI've trained with Julia over 5 years first at Pacific Athletic Cub and then at my house. Both my wife and daughter have also trained with her. She combines great fitness knowledge, positive attitude, and super friendly demeanor to make workouts speed by, but still are thorough (and sometimes painful the next day -- but in the good way).
She's great at improvising with whatever equipment you may have or following your lead. I'd still be training with her if she hadn't moved too far away to make it practical.
Unlike some trainers, she definitely walks it like she talks it. She never asks you to do something she can't do.
I've attended different fitness classes and worked with other trainers, but Julia remains the brightest spot. Try a class or a session with her -- you'll never enjoy sweating as much as you will with her.

Julia changed my life. Before I started my training, simple walking hurt and I couldn't climb up or down stairs without holding on to the railing. I couldn't lift a suitcase and rarely went to sleep without lots of Advil or Aleve. I now enjoy walking, running and climbing stairs.
