Julia changed my life.

Before I started my training, simple walking hurt and I couldn't climb up or down stairs without holding on to the railing. I couldn't lift a suitcase and rarely went to sleep without lots of Advil or Aleve. I now enjoy walking, running and climbing stairs. I help others with their bags on airplanes, and do not experience any hip or joint pain. My blood pressure and weight are down and I am off all prescription medicines. I wake up and go to sleep happy and proud.

I have worked with Julia since 1999, first at the Pacific Athletic Club and then by e-mail after I moved out of the area. When I started working with her, I was already a fairly experienced ultra athlete, having completed many long distance biking events such as Race Across AMerica (RAAM), Paris-Brest-Paris, Furnace Creek 508 and many other races on a tandem with my husband. I had injured myself in a 100 mile run and I wanted help to recover after surgery (the insurance only covered a few PT sessions). I was refered to Julia. I did not think I had a lot to learn about training for running and biking races (at the time, I was just thinking about recovering). How wrong I was! After 10 years, I am still learning from Julia.

She has a unique ability to target my work-outs perfectly, to make them interesting, challenging, and still fun after all this time. She is very flexible, extremely inspirational, and tough in a positive and helpful way. She is able to vary my work-outs so that they are always helpful to me, and never feel stale. In short, she is absolutely the best!

I really recommend anyone seeking nutritional and training expertise to seek Julia. I had for a long time wanted to complete an Olympic triathlon. I took up Julia's challenge of doing the Santa Cruz Triathlon this September. Within a span of seven weeks, after a particularly exhaustive trip out of the country, I have gone from 185 to 170 lbs and considerably improved my fitness. I was amazed at how my previous diet and the change in diet, tailored by Julia, could have such a huge impact without feeling hungry. Julia also created a training plan for improving my running. Along the way, Julia has given me many improvement tips that would've taken me long to acquire.

Julia walks it like she talks it.

I've trained with Julia over 5 years first at Pacific Athletic Cub and then at my house. Both my wife and daughter have also trained with her. She combines great fitness knowledge, positive attitude, and super friendly demeanor to make workouts speed by, but still are thorough (and sometimes painful the next day -- but in the good way).

She's great at improvising with whatever equipment you may have or following your lead. I'd still be training with her if she hadn't moved too far away to make it practical.

I've attended different fitness classes and worked with other trainers, but Julia remains the brightest spot. Try a class or a session with her -- you'll never enjoy sweating as much as you will with her.

I trained with Julia in two speciality fitness group classes one lasting two months and then later in a cycle camp I repeated for a total of three months. I sit here writing this review realizing how much I miss working with Julia (geography is the cause of that). Julia has broad knowledge of both nutrition and exercise physiology, and in my quest to lose a few pounds and optimize my exercise regimen, I sought out a consultation with her. I'm probably a tough customer in the sense that I know a lot about nutrition and exercise. Her emphasis is on overall wellness and eating whole, organically based foods that will truly feed your body. The exercise regimen she put together for me has been the most comprehensive I've ever had and is based on well-researched principles. She has a commanding knowledge about all aspects of fitness (including the ever-important psychology of it). And above all, Julia inspires because she lives and breathes these principles in her own life.

I joined a Slim in 7 workout program and Courtside in Oct 2009. I was intimidated at first because of my weight and feeling out of shape. Julia made all of those fears disappear after the first 10 minutes. It doesn't matter what size or fitness ability you are, she knows how to train you, motivate you and keep you coming back. She even taught me how to swim free style and gave me the confidence to do it on my own. I continued signing up for this program for two more sessions because of Julia. She also has an extensive knowledge of nutrition and sends out weekly emails regarding food choices, health topics and environmental info.
